I recently spent an awesome weekend in San Diego with old friends. As expected, everything about this old home and its people were so familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Kind of like an old pair of jeans, but modified with a fresher stitch or new buttons. Endearing, I think, is the word.
Also as expected, I got asked “How’s LA?” approximately a million times, and I think I’ve finally drafted a final copy of the answer.
“I like it.”
Almost everyone replied with, “WHAT? BUT WHY?!”
[In other words: "How could you? You were such a nice girl with depth and intelligence, though."]
“Well, because I’m vegan and anorexic now in order to pursue my triple threat career which is like, so cool, and even though I’m in massive credit card debt, it’s worth all the fabulous clothes and alcoholic drinks I consume hourly.”
I should try that answer next time. Would it ease the shock?

i also like LA, well at least pasadena. and i would contend boston is more expensive, at least in terms of groceries. boston has quaintness, i.e. oldness, that i no longer appreciate.
